Funds Benefit Autism and Parkinson's Disease
Aug 8, 2012 --

Holly RobinsonPeete with Rob Schiller at Hollyrod Foundation event

Actress Holly Robinson Peeteand former NFL quarterback husband Rodney Peetehosted DesignCare 2012 at their Malibu estate for over 500 VIP guests, including  Emmy-award winning Hollywood director, Rob Schiller. The annual fundraising event attracted celebrity guests and supporters who enjoyed musical performances by Natalie Cole, Luke James and music director Ricky Minor, and a fashion show featuring designer Sue Wong, and benefits the HollyRod Foundation, which offers support and resources to those living with Autism and Parkinson’s disease.

Director and producer Rob Schiller who is a long-time supporter, congratulated hosts Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete on another successful fundraising evening for a worthy cause: “Families caring for children with autism need help with daily activities, things that most of us take for granted. The Hollyrod Foundation’s fundraising provides help and hope for families in need – whether living with autism or dealing with Parkinson’s disease – and brings awareness so we can eventually find cures.”

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that one in every 88 U.S. children, and one in 54 boys, has autism.  A 2008 survey shows that autism is up 23% since 2006 and 78% since 2002.  Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease each year, and there are as many as one million Americans living with the disease.

The HollyRod Foundation was formed in 1997 by Holly and Rodney Peete in honor of Holly’s father, who suffered from Parkinson’s disease. After learning of their eldest son’s diagnosis with autism, they extended the support of Hollyrod to include providing care to those living with Autism.

At this year’s annual DesignCare event, honorees were Gerarld L. Storch, chairman and CEO of Toys “R” Us, former NBA star Brian Grant, and Zev Glassenbergand Justin Kanewof “Amazing Race.” Celebrity guests included Paula Abdul, Lisa Rinna, Brooke Burke, Arsenio Hall, Jane Seymour, and Byron Allen, along with many others.

American Airlines, Outback Steakhouse, Target, Wen Hair & Body Care, Babakul, Audi Beverly Hills, and NARS were generous corporate sponsors.
